I’m Joy Jacobson—actress, educator, award-winning speaker and creator of SHINE and the BEVES™ Presence Method, an actor-crafted presence training for professionals and teams.

After 15+ years of watching what makes people land—on camera, on stage, and in boardrooms - I’ve become convinced that presence is the foundation for everything. Clarity. Credibility. Connection. Influence. Storytelling. Leadership. And the best news? Presence is trainable.

That’s why I built BEVES™ - five levers you can train: Body, Energy, Voice, Emotion, Story. Not a personality make-over. Not a performance. A repeatable practice that unifies the way you show up with your true expertise—especially in high-stakes moments.

I learned presence the way actors do: by training our instrument. I earned my MFA in Acting from CalArts (where I taught undergraduates) and my B.S. in Communications from UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating with honors and Phi Beta Kappa. I’ve appeared in 40+ film and TV projects, including Instant Family  with Mark Wahlberg and Lessons in Chemistry with Brie Larson - years of studying what reads, what connects, and what falls flat.

My education didn’t happen only on set. I spent a year in India working with grassroots NGOs, lived in a monastery, met with the Dalai Lama, worked with Buddhist monks, and served as VP of Youth for Development and Cooperation in Holland, where I led international workshops. I also facilitated Leading Aloud workshops in the biotech space with Webpsyched. Working across cultures with limited resources, limited shared context, and real stakes taught me this: presence isn’t about being loud or charismatic - it’s about being clear, intentional and connected.

Those threads - acting, teaching, global leadership, and my refusal to treat presence as a vague, magical quality - came together in BEVES™: five levers you can train to access your full range, so your presence matches your talent and drives the results you want to achieve.
